Marked Watervliet Arsenal N.Y US w/ inspector marks P.V.H. The tops are stippled and were a favorite among cavalry officers as they could be brightly polished. Often used w/ the McCllean Saddle but original equipment for the Grimsley saddle. Commonly reffered to as "Artillery stirrups." |

The intertwined usa model 1863 rosette, mistakenly referred to as an artillery rosette, is the most common rosette found at calvary fort and camp sites. It perhaps was used by both branches, but is definitely observed in many civil war and indian war photographs of cavalry horses and their equipment. |

This Carbine socket is original equipment for the model 1859 McCllean saddle, and in near mint condition. The leather is still good and has very little cracking, and all the stitching is in perfect condition. The iron adjusting buckle has about 90% of its japaning (blacking), and the whole item is a must for the serious collector that wants musuem quality for his collection. |
